Black Fly NE Florida Fly Fishing Report

January – March

Fly fishing can be really good during the winter months. The spotted sea trout will hit chartreuse clousers or bait fish patterns consistently. Look for clear water along the ICW or creeks off the ICW. Bluefish will be mixed in your catches if you go south toward St. Augustine.
The redfish are active when the water temperature is above 60º or on summer days when the water temp rises during the day. On these days, fish the lower half of the tides after the mud flats warm up. Fox fur clousers or other flies in tans, browns and golden colors work the best.
Later in March or early April the water temperature will reach 72º and the reds in the surf will start taking flies at the three natural inlets in NE Florida. Check our spring fishing report coming out next month for April – June fly fishing information.
